In civics this quarter, we learned about nation and state.  The assignment this quarter is to answer question about those two topics and below is the sample of work:

CIVICS

1.     On your own words, please explain the difference between state and nation. (max 100 words)

2.     Why a state needs other states’ recognition? How does it affect that state directly? (max 150 words)

3.     Explain the characteristics of nationalism (patriotic). (max 100 words)

4.     Explain the application of nationalism spirit in daily life. (minimum 100 words)

Answers

1.     State is an area or a territory that is managed as a political community under one government. Nation a large group of people, which are united by common offspring, history, culture or language living in the same country. The difference between these two words is that state is just an area that are managed under one government while nation a large group of people who are united by offspring, history, culture or language which they have a relation and that they live in the same habitat.

2.     A state needs to get each others recognition to confirm or convey a message or to know what’s going on, on each states. The states have to respect with each other, to help each other in problems, miscommunications, working together or trying to build things together to create a better state together. The affect to the state is that they would respect each other and they would know each state better.

3.     Patriotism is a behavior and attitude which shows how her/ his willingness to sacrifice on behalf of his or her nation. Its like how they would do everything for their country, and a blind belief or too much of patriotism would lead to self glory and could lead to exaggerated patriotism.

The application of nationalism spirit shown in daily life is shown through how a person would follow the rules created by the government. Support every event that the government has organized and would not dare to even break any rules created. Fight for the country, support

Reflection

I think that on this assignment, I have done my best answering the questions given by the teacher, I have looked up the information from the notes I took and based from the powerpoint. I think I have done well as I researched the information from my notes and that I have thought carefully on answering the question. I think that in the near future, I should work better, research more and think more carefully when answering the questions.

The assignment given in Civics surely can be related to the concept of Intercultural Awareness, by learning the concept of nation and state. It clearly increases my awareness in Indonesia culture as in Civics we learned about the concept nation and state in Indonesia and covers the history about it.
