English Literature
In english this quarter, we were assigned by Ms. Terri to read a book called ' A single Shard', this book is a very passionate story about a boy that never give up on his dreams. I showed risk taker because my group was able to go to the board and explain about a diorama that me and my group made. The people that were in my group are Sammy and Nick.
A Single Shard Reflection:
For me my favorite character would be Tree-ear, because as I read the story, he was the one that thought me a lot of important things. Such as having dreams, hopes, never give up and persevear. This attitudes are the things that made Tree-ear my favorite character.
1. Make a connection between this book and any other book you have read
Another book I read that is related with a single shard, is the book called Three Muskateers. In a single shard there is a boy that really hoped that he could be a great potter. While in the three muskateer, there is a boy that hoped to be a great muskateer like his father. So that would another book this is related with a single shard.
2. Fit each character with an IB learner profile, and explain why.
Tree-Ear
Risk Takers – Because Tree-Ear wanted to be a potter, although he didn’t know any basics to be a pottery. So he wanted to be one, and he was taught by one of the best potter in the town called Min. The example was when the bandits, threw the vases off the cliff. Tree-Ear still believes and just took the risk and still went to Song Do with a single shard.
Crane-Man
Thinkers – Because Crane-Man always gives advice to Tree-Ear when he is confused, Crane man always gave him advices. Also Crane Man is a very thoughtful and caring guy because he took care of Tree-ear and lead him to the right path.
Min
Knowledgable- Min is knowledgable because he is one of the best potters in the town. He wanted all his work to be perfect, because he is a perfectionist. So he knows all the techniques to create a good vase, and now he taught it to Tree – Ear
Ajima
Caring – Ajima is caring because she gave Tree- Ear food all the time when he works in her house, then she gave tree- Ear clothes when tree-ear decided to go to Song Do, she was afraid if tree-ear will catch a disease. Then she cares tree-ear like he is her own son and she adopted tree-ear because she cares for him.
Kang
Communicators- Kang is a communicator because he likes to express his ideas to the town. One example that shows this was when King uses the new technique called the inlaid technique. He was the first guy that show this technique to the world, and it is why he likes to express his ideas.
Emissary Kim
Reflective- the emissary is reflective, because when Tree- Ear only brought a single shard, the emmisary was shocked because of the purity of the glazed. He understood tree-ear that he met the bandit. And he understood because Min’s shard was perfect. So he consider about it and chose Min’s although the shard was broken, but the shard was perfectly glazed. So he consider about it.
