Science
Science this quarter, we learnt about chemistry. To me chemistry was very confusing and I had a hard time learning about it. This quarter we learned about chromatography. Its like diffusion of color in water, that can be shown as an experiment.

Objective:
The objective of our experiment is to find out how long will the dye seperate in the water, so we will time it with stopwatch and see how long will the dye seperate.
Hypothesis:
In my group our hypothesis is that the dye will seperate in a different amount of time but mostly it wall be long, since the we drop the dye very little, and it will take time for the filter paper to absorb the water and to seperate the dye.
Variables:
Independent –
The independent in our experiments are the dyes, we have five different dyes in our experiment, so we change colors in each experiment.
Dependent –
Our dependent is to time how long will the dye seperates in the water, we will use the stop watch to check it.
Control –
Our control is to put the same amount of water in each experiment to see if it is accurate or not.
Materials:
- 5 Different color of dyes
- Blue
- Green
- Orange
- Yellow
- Brown
- 5 pencils
- 10 Filter Papers
- 1 Tape
- 6 Beakers
- Dropper
- 3 Stopwatch
- Scissor
- Water
Method:
1. Cut the filter paper into a 9cm rectangular shaped paper
2. Take the paper into 1 pencil
3. Fill the beaker 100 ml of water
4. Take a spoon
5. Fill it with any dye
6. Mix it with water
7. Use the dropper to take the mixture
8. Drop a little dot in the filter paper
9. Take another beaker
10. Fill the beaker 100 ml of water
11. Put the filter paper in the beaker
12. Beware the filter only can touch the water a little bit
13. Time it with stop watch
14. Just wait
15. You will get the result

Data Presentation :
Explanation:
This is the time that we record when the dyes are dissolving, we took how long does the dye seperates, as you can see that the data now is presented in a graph where you can see it more visualy. As you can see that each colors has different time to seperate.
Evaluation:
Through the experiment as you can see that Green is the color where it seperates the longest, it took around 7 minutes to seperate, and the fastest to dissolve is the color blue, where it took about 1 minutes to seperate.
Conclusion:
Overall the conclusion that it depends how long does each dyes seperate in the water, every color that we tested has different results due to different time. I think it is because each colors have values, where lighter colors has little values so it will seperate a lot faster than the darker colors, because darker colors has more value, where more value make the colors is darker.
Evaluation:
I think my methods need a lot of improvements, I think the colors has different result because i think when we make the mixture, we put to little dye and a lot of water, so it won’t be as accurate as it should’ve been, maybe we time it wrong, so we were late to record it.
Extension:
We could use the same experiment but we should change the amount of dye or water. We can change by not recording the time but we change it instead and record how long did the dye seperates, how many cm or something.
Reflection
During science this quarter, I learn a lot about chromatography and how to make the real lab report. I guess this is my best sample for science because Lab report is like the final thing in Science, and I think I did my best during this report. I still need a lot of improvements to make lab report, because it is very confusing and hard to use scientific words. My experiment was not really good and my lab report was very bad. I think next time I should focus more in class and ask more to the teacher with things I don't yet understand.
