English Literature
For English this quarter, we had to make a persuasion essay. It was very hard to make a persuasion essay, because we should persuade people to come to our province. My province was Kalimantan, so we should write the national pride about Kalimantan by talking through cultures.

Artistic Treasures
Kalimantan is a huge and beautiful island which is located between Sumatra and Sulawesi. Not just famous for its richness in natural resources and flora fauna, it is also famous in the different arts. Literature, dance and traditional ceremonies are just three small parts from the different variety of unique cultural arts in Kalimantan. These unique arts have create Kalimantan a memorable place to be visited.
Man and Woman Playing Bertutur
Literature in Kalimantan is one of the treasured arts that have been preserved by the Bamadihin clan through the ages. The art of bertutur is a unique art where it is usually played by four people to create a beautiful sound. The creative art of bertutur is harmonized in both music and poem because the Bamadihin clan has been practicing it for a long period of time in their lives. “The bamadihin is one of the people through berutur banjar minstrelsy or pantun that dilantukan by one to four people with tambourine and musical instrument or fly. Currently some group bamadihin still survives in urban Banjar, although not as much as before”. (Translated)(Seni Bertutur) The combination of meaningful words and strong melody creates a harmonious music that soothes one’s ear. But with less people playing this special piece of literature might not keep on decreasing and will not be preserved again.
2 Man dancing Tari Perang
Beside Literature, Kalimantan is well known for its marvelous dances. These dances are very unique indeed because each dance holds a powerful meaning. Tari Perang is a special dance, when it is danced it will look

beautiful. Tari Perang has a sweet meaning inside where it is about two men fighting for a girl. Tari Perang is “A dance that tells a story how two men are having a duel over a girl” (Oracle Foundation). Beside the wonderful dance of Tari Perang, another creative dance called the Tari Hudog and Belian. This dance is to eliminate darkness. Tari Hudog and Belian means “This is a special dance in which the dancers are to get rid of evil spirits”(Oracle Foundation). Tari Belian Dadas is another special dance, which means “A Traditional dance, asking for the recovery of the ill”. This dance is very unique causey it is able to heal the ill. The different techniques and marvelous rythms build such a fascinating dance. With this piece of dance, it contains a richful meaning where it can be applied in life.
Kalimantan Art that is most treasured is the traditional ceremonies. Each ceremony holds a powerful teachings and the process of the ceremony. Tepung Tawar is one of the ceremonies which means “Tepung Tawar is a ceremony held to welcome visitors to the region or local villages. This ceremony is held in order to protect the visitors from bad spirit and disease as longs they are in the area” (Visit East Kalimantan) Tepung Tawar indeed is different, where it can protect visitors from sickness and get rid of evil spirits. Kelebur Bejamug is another special ceremony where it is a farewell ceremony for visitors. “This is a farewell ceremony to the visitors or guests who going to leave the place visited. This ceremony is held by some women of the local village.” (Visit East Kalimantan) Belian is a very special ceremony that can help and heal disease that appears to be involved with evil spirits. “This is a ceremony of healing disease, the Daya Benuaq tribe believe that disease appears because there is imbalance between spiritual world and material world and it can be stabilized by holding Belian Ceremony.”(Visit East Kalimantan) From teachings and purpose, the ceremonies are able to help problems that are happening in life.
Overall, Kalimantan most treasured arts are very special because each of them has a strong meaning. The art of bertutur are something that you should take a look at, as the bamahidin clan have been doing it for ages to preserve this tradition. The Kalimantan dance is a symbol of the excitements and the happiness of the people who danced. But Kalimantan’s Art would not be united without the traditional ceremony where it shows the beauty of culture and traditions. Literature, dance and ceremony have shown the true beauty of Kalimantan Arts.

This is my best work for this subject, because this essay is for me has a lot of information about Kalimantan Cultural Art. This work is my best because It is based on my hard work. I think this essay is quite good enough to be read. From this essay I have learn new vocabulary and the skill to write persuasively. I think I need a lot of improvements in this work, because it still need a lot of fixing by the grammars issues, more persuasive words, and I need to add more information and adjectives.

This quarter we learn about provinces in Indonesia. After we research (awareness) about the province we make an essay about our chosen province. The reason (action) we make an essay about our chosen province is to have national pride and build our knowledge about our chosen province (reflection).
